Haridwar, June 25 (): Shirdi Sai Baba devotees are gearing up for a fight against Dwarakapeeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand, who was booked yesterday on a case filed in Shirdi for hurting religious sentiments.
Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand said that Shirdi Sai Baba born a Muslim is not a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity and should not be worshipped by Hindus as he was a not a God and only a human being.
Reasoning this, the Swami pointed out that Muslims would have had the same amount of faith in Shirdi Sai Baba and it was not so and hence was not a symbol of unity between the two religions. The seer also disapproved the construction of Shirdi Sai Baba temples saying that it was merely a way of cashing in the name of the spiritual man.
The Shirdi Sai Baba cannot be an incarnation of God, since in Sanatan Dharma there are only 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu and in Kaliyug, only Buddha and Kalki are mentioned. He said worshipping Shirdi Sai Baba is a conspiracy to divide the Hindus.
Swami Swaroopanand told a news channel that the followers of Sai Baba should not worship Lord Rama, or take holy bath in river Ganga, and chant Har Har Mahadev as Shirdi Sai Baba was a Muslim. He said that his devotees would give a befitting reply to Shirdi Sai Baba followers who burned his effigy.
Later, Swami Swaroopanand said there should be a logical debate on the issue. He termed the worship of Shirdi Sai Baba a Muslim fakir as a conspiracy of foreign organisations.
Shirdi Sai Baba was a non- vegetarian and spoke of circumcision and hence cannot be considered an ideal Guru, said the Swami. Shankaracharya alleged that numerous temples devoted to Sai Baba across the country being built was to dilute the Ramajanmabhoomi movement in Ayodhya.
