Box office collection : Holiday enters 100 crore club

Mumbai, June 23 (): The Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Holiday’ has become the third film to enter the 100 crore club in the year 2014. The movie crossed the figure on its third Friday of release at the Indian box office.

Holiday has attained this impressive feat in 15 days. By collecting 1.02 crores on its 3rd Friday, the film’s total domestic collection reached 100.35 crores. Film critic and trade analst Tarn Adarsh tweeted, “#Holiday [Week 3] Fri 1.02 cr. Grand total: ₹ 100.73 cr nett. India biz. HIT. Biz was super-strong on Sat too. Updating in a while”.

Holiday is the third film of Akshay Kumar to make business of more than 100 crores at box office after Rowdy Rathore and Housefull 2. Holiday is an action drama, directed by A.R. Murugadoss. The entertainer has performed tremendously well in its 1st week itself, like his earlier film Ghajini which also had grossed 100 crores. It was not tough for Holiday to cross the 100 crore mark.

The film starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, was released on June 6 and opened to good reviews. Holiday earned over Rs. 40 crore in the first weekend itself. It grossed approximately 69 crores in the first week and 31 crores in the second week.

The movie surpassed the big hurdle very easily and smoothly. Opening to a huge opening, there were huge expectations from the film to break few records at box office and make a quick route to become a member of 100 crore club was also predicted earlier.

Moreover, Holiday is the 29th movie to join the 100 crore club. The 100 crore club chart is topped by Dhoom 3, Chennai Express, and Krrish 3.

In 2014, Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho entered the 100 crore club by collecting Rs 116 crore and Alia Bhatt – Arjun Kapoor starrer 2 States by collecting Rs 102 crore. Following those two films, the Aksahy Kumar starrer Holiday has now entered the prestigious club. Predictions say Holiday will overtake 2 States’ collections soon.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, Holiday is a remake of his Southern hit Thuppakki.
