May 23 (): Rajasthan Royals (RR), currently in the 4th position on the points table meet the leader Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for the last spot in the play-off in IPL 7.
Rajasthan Royals have themselves to blame for the position they are in. They could have been the second team to qualify for the play offs and cooled their heels for the last couple of games, but having lost 3 of their last 5 games, they have been pushed down to the 4th spot, fighting with Sunrisers and Mumbai Indians for the only spot left in the play offs. A win today will seal their date in the play offs, while a loss will make the match against Mumbai Indians a must win.
There were four changes that were made to the team in the last match and they paid the price for it with a loss. Skipper Watson would want to keep the experiments to the last game, if necessary and go with his regulars in today’s match.
Binny has not contributed anything of significance this IPL 7 and he will be eager to make his place in the team count. Watson, who has marshaled his troops well, would want to score big and be instrumental in his team’s success.
Kings XI Punjab lost their match against Mumbai Indians the other day due to another break down in the batting order. Their middle order seems to be too fragile with the scoring rate coming down significantly once the top 4 are out of the picture. They need to find the right balance in the remaining 2 games so that it does not hurt them in the play offs.
Sehwag has been getting starts and only once has gone beyond 50. He will want to stay in the middle a bit longer and convert his 30’s to a 50 today. Vohra , the 20 yr old, has been a revelation and has scored in all three matches he has played. A line up with Sehwag, Vohra, Maxwell and Miller can give nightmares to even the best of bowling units and Rajasthan Royals will be expecting to get them out early and push for victory.
