Godzilla ~ Exclusive Review

May 19, Chennai (): Godzilla, the science fiction movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins and is directed by Gareth Edwards.

The movie begins with nuclear test from 1954 in Japan and then moves on to 1999 where a reactor undergoes an accident and radiation is controlled just before it was exposed. Joe Brody, the plant supervisor notices a pattern in the seismic activities around the plant, but by the time he puts the pieces together he loses his wife and many co-workers in the plant.

Then there is a sudden jump to present day where his son grows up, raises a family of his own while Joe hasn’t moved on. He trespasses the plant and gets into trouble. His son flies back to rescue his father but they again get into trouble when they try to unearth the seismic activities of same pattern happening now.

The scientist team who’s been following these tremors and communications reveal that the nuclear test was not what humans have misunderstood it to be, but an attempt to make the MUTO extinct – Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism. It’s a massive creature which feeds on nuclear radiation and every attempt to kill it, MUTO in turn feeds on it.

The plot takes a turn while an even bigger creature named Gojira which in other slang called Godzilla hunts them down to maintain the eco-balance. But, not knowing this the human race considers both the creatures a threat and devices a plan to take down both the species. The culmination answers who kills whom and what happens to Godzilla.

Quirky Quotes

Graham: In 1954, we awakened something. Those nuclear tests in the Pacific, not tests.
Serizawa: They were trying to kill it.

Serizawa: The arrogance of men is thinking nature is in their control and not the other way around. Let them fight.

Godzilla becoming the saviour gives you goosebumps, the way MUTO never gives up just keeps you awe-struck. The movie has its moments which are enjoyable.

The movie is quite a drag whenever the dragons do not fight and when they do, the screenplay is choreographed such a way that it comes only in a TV news until it reaches climax.
