IPL 7 ( May 15 Result) Rajasthan Royals hand Delhi their 6th straight loss ( Points Table)

May 16 () : Rajasthan Royals (RR) played a perfect game, with their batsmen scoring big and the bowlers taking 9 wickets in their victory against Delhi Daredevils (DD).

Pietersen opted to bowl on winning the toss and for Rajasthan Royals, the opening pair of Rahane and Nair were back together after the shuffle of the batting order in the last game, putting on 44 in 5.3 overs before Nair fell for 19 off 14.

Cooper, drafted into the playing XI in the absence of Watson, out with an injury, walked in brimming with confidence. This was evident in the front foot strokes he struck against Nadeem and Imran Tahir. He scored a quick fire 32 off just 16 deliveries studded with 3 huge sixes and 2 boundaries.

Samson, whose form has deserted him till date, finally got going in IPL 7. In the company of Rahane (64 off 50 – 8 Fours, 1 Six), who played yet another mature innings, Samson flourished, hitting 3 sixes, two of which were against Kaul in the same over. He was one of the 2 wickets of Imran Tahir in the 18th over, the other being Binny out for a duck.

Faulkner finished the innings with 2 sixes in the last over bowled by Shukla. The late flurry helped RR post 201/6 . Rajasthan Royals paced their innings so well that, 11 of the 20 overs yielded 10 or more runs.

Delhi Daredevils started positively with 19 runs in two overs before Faulkner , with the ball in his hand this time, accounted for Agarwal who had scored 17 off just 10 deliveries. Karthik coming in at 3, did not last long, out caught by Cutting for 3.  Of the Indian wicket keepers playing in IPL 7, Karthik has been the most disappointing as Parthiv Patel and Saha have outshone him with the bat.

Duminy, who was finally promoted up the order, hit a six of Thambe before being caught by Nair the very next ball for 8. Pietersen who was watching his key players being dismissed from the non-strikers end, lost his stumps to Bhatia while trying to go over extra cover. By end of the 10th over, with 62 on board, Delhi Daredevils had half their side back at the dug-out, with Taylor adding to the batting woes by returning with a score of 4, caught by Bhatia off his own bowling.

A required run rate of 14 with all 5 top order wickets already accounted for; Tiwary played a lone hand in ensuring the margin of defeat was reduced. He ended the innings without being dismissed on 61 off 44 balls with 5 hits to the boundary and 2 sixes. If only he had some support, Delhi could have made a game out of this.

With this 62 run victory, Rajasthan Royals retain their third position in the table and with 14 points against their name are probably a victory away from qualifying for the play offs, while Delhi Daredevils languish at the bottom of the table.
