IPL 7 ( May 14 Result) : Vohra and Saha decimate Sunrisers (Points Table)

May 15 () : Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) successfully chased 205 for the second time in IPL 7, against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and in the process, moved to the top of the table with 16 points.

KXIP brought in Vohra and Shivam Sharma into the playing XI to boost their opening combination and bowling unit.

Put into bat, SRH were at 23/0 in 4 overs. The 5th over by Sandeep Sharma was the turning point, as Dhawan, on 4 off 12 balls, drove the bowler for a boundary off a free hit, which was a no ball again. Dhawan hit 3 more boundaries and a six down the ground off the next 4 deliveries making it a 26 run over.

At the fall of Dhawan’s ( 45 off 37) wicket, Warner joined Ojha (79 off 36 – 4 Fours, 7 Sixes). Ojha was the aggressor, hitting Sharma for 2 consecutive sixes. Warner was run out for 44 off 23 (3 Fours, 3 Sixes) in the 19th over, which yielded another 26 runs with Ojha hitting Sandeep Sharma for 2 fours and 2 sixes. He ended with 65 runs in 4 overs, the second most expensive spell in all IPL.

Chasing a target of 206 for the second time in this IPL, Sehwag was out in the 2nd ball of the innings.

M Vohra (47 off 20 – 5 Fours, 2 Sixes) and W Saha (54 off 26 – 8 Fours, 2 Sixes) then played one of the most destructive innings you will ever see. In a span of 41 deliveries, both these batsmen scored 91 runs and that too against the world’s best bowler Steyn and Bhuvanesh Kumar.

Steyn’s first over, yielded 16 runs as Vohra pulled him for a six over mid-wicket. Saha hit 3 boundaries using his feet wonderfully against Kumar in his second over. Henrique bowling the 4th over was welcomed with a six by Saha and Vohra scored back to back boundaries to bring up the 50 in only 3.4 overs.

Vohra smacked 2 consecutive boundaries again when Henrique came back for his 2nd over before Saha hit him for a six and brought up his 50 off just 22 balls with a boundary. The over yielded 20 runs and KXIP had scored 86/1 in 6 overs, missing the best score for power-play overs in all IPL by only 1 run.

Maxwell (43 off 22 balls – 2 Fours, 5 Sixes) joined Vohra in the the 8th over and hit Sharma for 3 sixes , 2 of which were over deep mid-wicket. He hit 2 more sixes off the same bowler before Mishra accounted for him. Sunrisers pulled back things giving away only 24 runs in the 5 overs between 13 to 17 before Bailey hit Steyn for 22 runs with 2 sixes and 2 boundaries.

Bailey closed the match in the best way possible, hitting Kumar for the 27th six of the match, over long off boundary bringing the tally of runs scored for the day to a mind-boggling 411 in just 38.4 overs.
