May 8 (): Gautham Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders moved to the front to a win finally after losing the match against Rajasthan Royals from a winning position, a couple of days ago.
Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to bat. The start was not too great with Q de Kock out for 10 and Pietersen yet again failing with 6 off 12 balls. In the power play DD could muster only 29 runs at a run rate of 4.83.
Karthik joined Murali Vijay (24 off 20 balls) and added 32 runs in 3 overs. Karthik (36 from 22 balls) helped increase the scoring rate, but post his wicket, the rate dropped. Thanks to Jadhav (26 off 15 balls) and Duminy ( 40 off 28 balls), DD were able to score 54 runs in the last 4 overs.
Duminy did not hit a single boundary but cleared the rope thrice during his stay while Jadhav played along the ground hitting 3 boundaries and a six in his brief stay at the crease. This helped them post a competitive 160/5 and gave the bowlers a good total to defend. The pick of the bowlers for KKR was Shakib Al Hasan who gave away only 13 runs off his 4 overs and rewarded with the wicket of Karthik.
Robin Uthappa (47 off 34 balls – 5 Fours, 1 Six) and Gambhir (69 off 56 balls – 5 Fours, 2 Sixes) gave KKR yet another flying start and put on a century partnership for the second consecutive time, only this time it help them win. Both of them ensured the run rate was good and reached 52 at the end of powerplay. The scoring only improved in the next four overs, allowing KKR to reach 90 at the half way stage. The 100 for the team came up in the 11th over and KKR was well and truly on track for victory.
Having imploded twice in IPL 7, the dismissal of Uthappa in the 12th over caused some anxiety. Pandey who joined Gambhir ensured there was no repeat of the previous match scoring 23 off 14 balls with the help of 2 boundaries.
With 10 required of 18 balls, Gambhir fell to a blinder of a catch from Dinesh Karthik causing panic in the hearts of the KKR fans. Kallis played in a relaxed manner and ensured the team won with 10 balls to spare.
The Delhi Daredevil bowlers yet again failed to get the required break-through. It is time for them to review their bowling line-up as they have reached a stage where they need to win each of their remaining games to have a remote possibility of qualifying for the play-offs.
