Chennai,May 2 (): Bala’s Paradesi bagged 4 awards in the fifth edition of the Norway Tamil Film Festival (NTFF) 2014 for the categories : Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematographer and Best Actor.
Best Film – Paradesi
Best Director – Bala (Paradesi)
Best Cinematographer – Chezhian (Paradesi)
Best Actor – Atharvaa (Paradesi)
Meantime, actress Pooja won the Best Actress Award for ‘Vidiyum Munn’ at NTFF 2014.
Paradesi, a brilliant and critically acclaimed pre-Independence saga of tea estate workers was penned and directed by Bala.
It is worthy to recall here that Paradesi bagged two awards at the prestigious London International Film Festival in 2013.
Adharvaa, Vedhicka and Dhansika were the lead actors in the movie. Released in March 2013, the film portrayed the pain and misery surrounding the lives of tea estate workers with the story set in 1930s.
We had reported last year that Bala’s Paradesi was the only film from India to have been nominated for the prestigious London International Film Festival, where it received nine nominations : Bala for Best Director, Best Film, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director of a Foreign Film; Best Lead Actor (Adharvaa Murali) ; Best Music, Best Background Scores ( GV Prakash Kumar) Best Costume Designer (Poornima Ramaswamy) and Best Cinematographer (Chezhiyan).
Though Paradesi did not set the cash registers ringing at the box –office,the film went on to win accolades at platforms of repute: costume designer Poornima Ramaswamy won the National award for Best Costume Design and the film’s lead young actor Adharvaa won Special Jury Award at 11th Chennai International Film Festival.
