Muslims polarize towards Congress

New Delhi, Apr 6 (): Muslim voters are polarizing towards Congress as many of their religious heads have come out in the open in support of the party.

Syed Ahmed Bukhari, the Imam of Jama Masjid call to Muslims to vote for Congress will have a mass effect on the community. This call has literally sealed the fate of SP in UP. Mulayam had been coming to power ever since 1992. Babri Masjid demolition had an effect on the strength of Muslim votes. Muslims who were voting for Congress till then shifted to SP since the Congress at the centre could not prevent it. The Imam had a closed-door meeting with Sonia before issuing the call to vote for Congress.

The Muslims got disenchanted after Mulayam’s son Akhilesh as CM mishandled the Muzzafarnagar riots. He failed to stop the carnage of Muslims by Jats and uprooting families. The relief camps further added to the woes as children died for want of warm clothing and food.

The Saifai Mahotsav conducted in Mulayam’s native village, an annual ritual which sees B-stars on stage was not cancelled. The lavish 10-day bash drew flak since a few hundred kms away the Muslims in the camps were suffering.

SP’s reactions only further angered the Muslims. The fact that Agra Muslims have openly decided to vote against BJP has further egged the undecided community votes to polarize towards Congress. Agra is the city in India with the highest number of Muslims.

According to political analysts, the UP Muslims do not trust SP any more and Modi aide Amit’s promise to take revenge for Jats killed in Muzzafarnagar has added to their fears. Yahya, brother of Imam’s Syed Ahmed Bukhari, on Saturday opposed the decision to support the Congress in the Lok Sabha election as he claimed that Congress had killed more Muslims than BJP. He said that Congress always backstabs the community while BJP openly shows its stance. He said that Imam should reveal what Sonia promised for the country. Imam had declared support for Congress and allies and for TMC in West Bengal.
