Kochi, Mar 15 (): Mata Amritanandamayi’s supporters under the banner of Kerala Dheevera Sabha and BJP observed a total shutdown in the coastal areas of the State. Reports said that fishing sector was totally paralyzed in Alappuzha region.
Meanwhile, VHP has asked the Government to ban the controversial book on Mata Amritanandamayi. Ashok Singhal who was in the State capital has called the book as an international conspiracy to defame Hinduism and its organizations. VHP has called for all Hindu organizations’ meet on March 23 here to discuss future course of action regarding the book on Mata Amritanandamayi mutt goings-on. BJP had joined the bandh call.
Geil, author of the book in an e-mail to Madhyamam said that she was not linked to any organization or religious faith and her aim was not against any institution or religion. She had written her experiences in the ashram only to give a warning to those who blindly follow these spiritual leaders. She said that the powerful organization takes to legal route and they have the resources to do so but she as an individual does not have the capacity to hire highly paid lawyers and fight the case in courts. The reply comes in the background of Mata Amritanandamayi mutt planning to file a defamation suit in New York court.
Hearing a PIL filed by a lawyer on the Government inaction on his complaint to file a FIR on Mata Amritanandamayi mutt based on the contents in the book, the High Court has asked the Government to file a reply within two weeks.
A report says that a spiritual discourse by Swami Sandipananda in a temple in Kozhikode was disrupted by Mata Amritanandamayi devotees who waved brooms at the venue. Public who had gathered at the venue chased the women devotees who fled in the waiting Amrita TV van. The reason for the Mata devotees to take offense on the Sandipananda is not mentioned.
The Swami is on a State-wide tour. As per reports, Mata Amritanandmayi’s devotees arrived in the noon by Amrita TV van. Organisers were busy overseeing the lunch being served to those who were attending the session. The devotees waved brooms and identified themselves as Mata’s followers.
The Swami sitting on dais began to chant Om Shanti and those in the crowd too joined in. As the chanting grew louder, the public entered and chased away the so-called devotees. Many say that the interpretation by the Swami that Mahabharta and Ramayana are something that did not take place in real and mere tales have angered some Hindu outfits.
Yet another reason is said to be that the Swami was an ex-inmate of Mata mutt. It was reported in Madhyamam daily which is facing criminal cases filed by police for defaming Mata.
