New Delhi, Mar 11(): BJP considers 13 as its lucky number right from the days it first came to power. Once again it will announce Modi’s constituency on March 13 at the central committee.
The first BJP-led NDA government lasted for 13 days and then second time for 13 months, and it was on October 13, 1999. Modi was announced as PM candidate on September 13 last year. His Lok Sabha constituency would be decided at the BJP’s National Parliamentary Board meeting. On September 13 , L K Advani opposed the PM nomination and now Murli Manohar Joshi who is sitting MP of Varanasi will oppose if Modi is given the constituency.
AAP has said that Modi will contest from Gujarat and UP and if he wins both, he will give up UP seat. BJP feels the pilgrim town of Varanasi is ideal for Modi. His standing for polls in UP will motivate the cadre. RSS has stepped in to pacify Joshi and Rajnath has to find a safe seat for him.
Varanasi for Modi will give BJP an advantage in 20 of eastern Uttar Pradesh, 40 in Bihar and 14 seats in Jharkhand.Modi fighting from Gujarat will give the opposition a stick to beat saying that BJP has given up on UP.
BJP without Modi in UP will get only 15-18 seats out of the total tally of 60 seats in Western UP and Bihar. BJP is looking to sweep UP and Bihar as part of its Operation 272 seats . The BJP is planning to reach the majority figure of 272 along with allies.
In this effort it opened its doors to defectors from rival parties so as to down the morale and increase the base. Modi effect has been like a magnet for many to cross over and small regional parties are keen to join the NDA alliance.
