Mumbai, Mar 9 (): Raagini Makkar and her troupe Naadyog won the trophy of the fifth season of the talent-based reality show “India’s Got Talent” on International Women’s Day Saturday.
The show is an Indian reality television series on Colors television network. Started on 2009, the show had successfully completed four seasons previously and the fifth season of the show started airing from 11 January 2014. The show was hosted by actor Mantra, Bharti Singh initially, but later Mantra was replaced by VJ Andy. The talents were judged by actress Kirron Kher, director Karan Johar and model-actress Malaika Arora Khan.
The winner of the fifth season, Raagini is a housewife and a Kathak dance teacher. She has been running a dance institute called Naadyog for nearly 25 years which has 360 students.
Raagini and her troupe went on to amaze the audience as well as the judges in the semi-finals with their unique show on Balam Pichkari.
The speciality of the team is that they had always been to represent Kathak in its purest form and they did not in any way Bollywood-ize their dance moves. They were unique due to their ability to express different forms in the classical dance.
The India’s Got Talent 5 winning group had women aged between 18 and 32. They were awarded Rs.50 lakh and a brand new car besides the trophy.
Raagini Makkar and her troupe Naadyog competed with top 10 worthy finalists. Other finalists of the finale were 13-year-old musical talent Saei Jamshed, 25-year-old Subhreet Kaur, who dances in spite of his amputated leg and dance group Beat Breakers.
The finale was graced by “Gulaab Gang” stars Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit, while megastar Amitabh Bachchan added more star power to the show. Big B came to the show to promote his upcoming movie Bhootnath Returns. Many TV actors attended the show and showed off fun dance moves along with judge Karan Johar.
