Box office collection : Dhoom 3 breaks Chennai Express and Krrish 3 record, becomes biggest opener

Mumbai, Dec 21 (TruthDive): Early reports say Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 that opened on December 20 with a huge response from the audience, has done historic collection at the domestic box office on the first day of its release.

Dhoom 3 has turned out to be the biggest opener for Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra. Beating the record of Chennai Express, the movie has become the biggest opener of 2013 as well as all time. It was released in India across 4470 screens and reportedly 820 screens overseas.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Dhoom3 is on a record-smashing spree in India. Previous records being shattered by a margin in several circuits. Numbers being compiled”.

When saying about the estimated collections of Dhoom 3 on the opening day, he has tweeted, “#Dhoom3 emerges the BIGGEST non-holiday opener ever. Collects Rs 30 cr+ [early est] on Friday. Hindi version only. Dhoom macha diya indeed!”

“If one includes biz of Tamil and Telugu versions, #Dhoom3 Fri biz could be anywhere between Rs 34 cr to Rs 35 cr. Will update actuals later”.

However, the actual opening day collection report is not yet compiled. It is assumed that this movie is all set to become the biggest opening day grosser of all times.

Early reports suggest, Dhoom 3 might end with Rs 35+ crores nett from all its versions (Hindi, Telugu and Tamil) at the domestic box office on its opening day. It is expected to cross Rs 100 crore mark in the domestic market in just 3 days.

Chennai Express, which is the all-time biggest opener has collected Rs 33.12 crores nett from 3500 (including Tamil and Telugu versions) at the Indian Box Office on the opening day of its release. Then, this year Diwali release Krrish 3 earned Rs 25 crore on its opening day.

The advance booking for the film is also great which is much higher compared to the bookings of Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’. The film showed occupancy of 95 to 100% in the morning show.
