Mumbai, Oct 2 (): Ranbir Kapoor’s Besharam hits the screens today in a grand manner. The movie is releasing in as many theatres as Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express – nearly 3,500 to 3,700 screens in the domestic market and 500 to 550 screens overseas.
Ranbir Kapoor, the youth star of Bollywood, is a box office favourite. Both his previous films Barfi! (2012) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD, 2013) had crossed Rs 100 crore mark. Trade analysts say Besharam has the potential to make up to Rs 150 crores if the storyline lives up to the expectations.
Advance bookings for the film began late Sunday and reports from various circuits say the film has shown an above average response overall. The booking rates are higher in the urban centres and multiplexes but remained dull in the single screens mostly.
The evening shows are heavily booked in key circuits like U.P and Bihar (even in the single screens), whereas in Punjab and Rajasthan, the film was average.
Distributor and trade analyst Suniel Wadhwa said Besharam has an advantage of National Holiday and extended weekend of 5 days as this will be Ranbir Kapoor’s 2nd film after Wake Up Sid release on Gandhi Jayanthi in 2009 which opened with 4.25 crore on day one.
Now, after four years, the market has grown big; so Besharam should collect at least 5 times of Wake Up Sid on the opening day, he said.
Promotions for Besharam are less than Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The actor did extensive promotions for YJHD with Deepika Padukone and ex-lovers’ chemistry worked very well for the success of YJHD. Their post-break chemistry is lacking in Besharam, so, trade analysts say good word of mouth is going to play a crucial role in the film’s pick up.
In Besharam, Ranbir Kapoor shares screen space with his parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor. Directed by Abhinav Kashyap (of the Dabangg fame), newcomer Pallavi Sharada plays Ranbir’s love interest.
