Mumbai, Sep 27 (): The highly-anticipated and much-hyped movie of Shahid Kapoor’s Phata Poster Nikla Hero has concluded the first week with a decent collection, collecting 31.5 crore at the Indian Box Office.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#PPNH collected 31.5 cr nett in Week 1. Breakup: Fri 6 cr, Sat 7 cr, Sun 8.25 cr, Mon 3.15 cr, Tue 2.75 cr, Wed 2.35 cr, Thu 2 cr”.
The business of the Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz starrer is not up to the mark. The movie that was released on September 20 was expected to exceed Rs 50 crore mark in seven days, but it has failed to do so.
The action comedy film, which opened with average earnings, raked in Rs. 21.25 crore in its opening weekend and PPNH on weekdays (till Thursday) collected Rs. 10.25 crore, which is disappointing for a big-budget film. Trade experts predict the film might rake in its production cost of 40 crore by end of second week and become a moderate hit at box office.
On the opening day, Phata Poster Nikla Hero showed a decent response with its occupancy ranging between 45% and 50% on Friday. Its business improved on Saturday and Sunday, but not up to the expected level.
But, when compared with the first week earnings of Shahid Kapoor’s previous flick 2011 release “Mausam” the first week collection of PPNH is good. By collecting Rs. 31.5 crore, PPNH becomes the highest ever opening week collection for a Shahid starrer. “Mausam” collected around Rs. 28 crore in seven days.
Another Shahid Kapoor movie Teri Meri Kahaani also had struggled to cross Rs 30 crore mark in the domestic market. Though Phata Poster Nikla Hero has crushed their seven day collection record of his previous films, trade analysts feel that its collection is not up to the mark. Since there are no big releases this weekend, it is expected to do well in the second week.
