Champions League T20: Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians

Jaipur, Sep 22 (TruthDive): It is another win for Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadiu here beating IPL 2013 champions Mumbai Indians by seven-wicket in the opening match of the CLT20, 2013. Rajasthan Royals did not lose a single match here in the 2013 IPL.

In the delayed match, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and put Mumbai Indians into bat and restricted them to 142 for 7 in 20 overs.

Chasing 143 to win in 20 overs, Rajasthan Royals finished 148 for three with a six by Stuart Binny in the third last delivery of the 20th over bowled by Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Rajasthan Royals played a good all-round show in batting, bowling and fielding. After the early wicket fall of Skipper Dravid, Sanju Simon and Ajinkya Rahane shared a 74-run stand for the second wicket. Both kept the asking rate in the check by hitting the fence in regular intervals.

Samson anchored Royals’ chase with his 54 in 47 balls. After the dismissal of Sanju in 16th over, Shane Watson made 27 from 22 balls and a quick-fire 27 from just 14 balls by Stuart Binny in the end of the innings as Royals reached the target with 2 balls to spare. Mitchell Johnson was punished by Royals’ batsmen for 28 runs in 4 overs. Rishi Dhawan, Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile took one wicket each.

Earlier, put into bat, Mumbai Indians lost Smith, Dinesh Karthik, Sachin Tendukar and Ambati Rayudu for just 43 runs in 9th over. Then they slated the comeback with Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard added 52 for the fifth wicket.

Skipper Rohit Sharma (44) and West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard (42) anchored the innings to reach a respectable total of 142 for seven in 20 overs. Royals’ paceman Vikramjit Malik took three wickets for 24 runs and was adjudged the man of the match.
