Lucknow, Sep 3 (TruthDive): Sushma Verma, the wonder whiz kid from Uttar Pradesh is all of 13-years. A soft-spoken and unassuming teen, Sushma Verma has enrolled herself for a post-graduate degree in Microbiology at Lucknow University (LU) with special permission from university vice-chancellor.
Daughter of a daily wage labourer, Sushma passed her Class 12 exams when she was a little over 9 years. She completed her B.Sc in Zoology and Botany this year from CMS Girl’s Degree College attached to LU, securing 66% marks.
With a one-room house in Lucknow, Sushma’s father Tej Bahadur Verma earns barely two hundred rupees a day and struggles to make ends meet. He had to sell off lands in his village to pay Rs 25,000/-, her first instalment of university fees.
Sushma Verma has dreams to become a doctor.But due to her under-age, she could not sit for CPMT . So, she intends to do her Ph.D after her post-graduation.
Sushma’s brother Shailendra is equally a brilliant child prodigy, who did his high school at 9 years and BCA at 14 from LU. Now a twenty-year-old, Shailendra is doing his MCA at Bangalore, working part-time to meet his expenses. Shailendra also holds the rare distinction of being the youngest computer science graduate till date.
While Sushma’s father has asked a for a fee waiver from Lucknow University, reports say financial assistance is pouring in for her from all quarters right from lyricist Javed Akhtar to some good-natured philanthropic individuals and charity foundation from across the country to support her studies at LU. Reports also say that the university has offered to waive her hostel fees.
Meanwhile, Sushma said she did not get any response from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University,to which she had applied for the same course. And she went on to add that she is extremely happy now with her admission at LU and said that her wait finally came to an end.
