Modi attacks Asaram Bapu, terms his act a blot on the society

Jodhpur, Aug 31 (): Attacking self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said it is a huge stain on the society if saints indulge in such offensive and dirty attacks.

Accusing the god-man for sexually assaulting a schoolgirl, Modi expressed anger over the indecent behaviour of Asaram Bapu and said that “it will be a big mark on society, if saints indulge in such things.”

16-year-old school going girl lodged a complaint against Asaram Bapu on August 20 of sexually assaulting her at his ashram in Jodhpur. The victim also claimed that she was threatened by Asaram Bapu to remain silent about the incident.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Police who issued a notice to Asaram to appear for questioning in connection with the sexual assault case filed against him, will not be giving more time to the self-styled god-man. Asaram will be arrested on August 31, if he fails to appear before the Jodhpur Police today, said a senior Police officer.

The man posing in an attire of a spiritual guru has been booked under Sections 342, 376, 506 and 509 of the IPC, Section 8 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act as well as Sections 23 and 26 of the Juvenile Justice Act. A notice has also been issued to the manager of Chhindwara Gurukul in Madhya Pradesh hostel warden who is the caretaker of the Asaram and who was present at Manai ashram in Jodhpur when the alleged sexual assault took place on Aug 15.

Meanwhile, Asaram Bapu has claimed that the allegations of sexual assault on him is not true and was organized by Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Talking to reporters, Asaram Bapu said that he is not against any party, but can say that the whole incident was planned by Sonia Gandhi and her son. Confirming the possibility of Asaram’s arrest, Jodhpur DCPAjay Pal Lamba said that though Police have strong evidence against Asaram,  they  will provide him opportunity to prove his innocence during the interrogation.
