Mervyn offers to marry Navaneetham Pillay who is to ascertain UN policy implementation in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Aug 29 () : UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Navi Pillay is visiting Sri Lanka to ascertain the government’s efforts in implementing the policies of United Nations in the island nation. Ms Pillay said she  was to study the prevailing situation in the country.

Ms Pillay reached Jaffna on 26th evening; she visited the UN office in Jaffna as well as the Jaffna library, and District Secretariat’s office. She met the Government Agent (GA) of Jaffna, Governor and other high-ranking bureaucrats in the area.

Ms Pillay attended the presentations made by the Government Agents of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitheevu, Vavuniya and Mannar. Navi Pillay also held  a closed-door meeting with the representatives of civil society in Jaffna.

On the other side, Navi Pillay also met with some demonstrations in Jaffna. The protesters demanded Pillay to look into their lost family members who went missing during and after the war.

In yet another demonstration against Ms Pillay in Colombo, the protesters criticized the United Nations for looking to study the human rights in a country still torn by decades’ old war and UN’s failure to protect them. They also demanded Ms Pillay to leave their country.

Navi Pillay also observed though she could see some developments in post-war North zone, she could still see lots of human rights issues in the area.

Meanwhile, Asian Tribune reports that country’s one-of-a-kind Public Relations and Public Affairs Minister Mervyn Silva said in a public meeting in Colombo that  he was willing to marry visiting UNHRC Commissioner Navi Pillay, retain her in the nation and show her what the country has to offer. He went on to add that he would be ready to marry her even the next day, if she agreed to it.

Mervyn added that he would like to teach Ms Pillay a bit of their history and observed that their nation is freed from clutches of terrorism due to the persistent efforts of Rajapkse and that their communities were coexisting peacefully. In the presence of a Buddhist clergy at the event, Mervyn  daringly asked when a Muslim can marry four women, what was wrong in him to marry another woman!

Mervyn in addition to having earned the bad reputation of having foot-in-mouth disease, also has complaints like assaults on media men, ill-treatment of government officials, extortions and passing rude remarks against contestants and judges in a TV reality show in the past.
