Box office collection : Can Chennai Express break record of 3 idiots worldwide revenue?

Mumbai, Aug 28 (): Roaring in a tremendous manner in the domestic market, Chennai Express has also continued its rocking run at the overseas market from the day of release. It has become the second Hindi film to cross Rs 100 crore mark in the international market after Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots. Now, the next feat that has to be achieved by Chennai Express is to surpass the worldwide revenue of 3 Idiots.

Chennai Express that was made on a budget of Rs 70 crores, is the fourth film to cross the Rs. 300 crore in worldwide business. The other films that have crossed this mark are: 3 Idiots with a total of Rs 392 crores, Ek Tha Tiger with a total of Rs 310 crore, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with a total of Rs 301 crores.

Capturing the overseas screens in its third week, the Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer remains completely unaffected by the new release Madras Café. The movie has dominated the international markets for the third consecutive week.

Trade analyst Taran tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress dominated the international markets for third consecutive week, completely unaffected by the new releases. BLOCKBUSTER”.

“Chennai Express” has earned Rs 314 crore worldwide after the third weekend. It is still Rs 78 crore short of beating Rs 392 crore worldwide revenue of “3 Idiots”.

Can Chennai Express beat the highest worldwide collections of 3 Idiots? Box office analysts say that this is not very likely. However, we have to wait for a few more days.

Reading about the record of 3 Idiots, we come to know 3 Idiots is the highest-grossing Bollywood film in overseas markets with record overseas gross of US$ 25 million. 3 Idiots first weekend opening collection in overseas market was $4 million. It set record collections for Indian-produced films in territories such as United States, Australia, Fiji, and some African territories. 3 Idiots has the biggest first week total in US with around $3 million over its first four days.
