Mumbai, Aug 25 (): The Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express has maintained a rock-steady performance in the domestic market even after entering into its third week. The movie has collected Rs 211.o3 crore in its third weekend.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran adarsh tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress collected Rs 10.48 cr nett in Weekend 3. Breakup: Fri 2.12 cr, Sat 3.61 cr, Sun 4.75 cr. Grand total: Rs 211.03 cr. ATBB”. He had commented the collection of the movie as “unstoppable”.
The Shah Rukh Khan starrer became the highest grosser of Hindi cinema on Friday [3rd Week] and continued its pace during the weekend. The film still in a good run and continues to set new benchmarks in India and also in the international markets.
Chennai Express was a solo release and released on Eid day August 9. In its first week of release, the movie collected Rs 156.70 crores in the domestic market. In the second week, the movie was predicted to face a tough competition with Akshay Kumar starrer Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara. But, the movie continued cashing in huge numbers.
Trade experts predicted that Madras Café released on August 23, which is one of the most-talked about films of the year, would silence the roaring of Chennai Express in its third week, but it too could not.
Now, after completing its third weekend, Chennai Express has collected a total of Rs 211.03 cr at the Indian Box Office in 17 days. It has become all time highest grosser in Hindi cinema, beating Aamir Khan’s Blockbuster movie 3 Idiots, which was topping the list with its life-time collection Rs 202 crores nett.
Having beaten most of the records in the Indian cinema, Chennai Express is now chasing the last record which is worldwide gross 391-395 cr of “3 Idiots”. Film has already crossed 380 cr gross and 400 cr gross looks certain.
