Mumbai, Aug 17 (): Chennai Express, apart from storming the domestic market, has also done a fabulous business in the overseas markets in its first week of release. The movie becomes the highest opening week grosser in the overseas circuits.
Movie enthusiast, Hindi movie critic and analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress sets a NEW record in international arena. Becomes the HIGHEST *opening week* grosser there”.
Rohit Shetty’s directorial is showing fantastic performance in the global circuits and the reason trade experts say is that the charm of Shahrukh Khan had attracted the overseas audiences. Being a family entertainer, filled with humorous sequences and Deepika Padukone’s sizzling performance, audiences in the international circuits are absolutely happy about the film.
The film has collected a sum of 72 crores in just 9 days in the international circuits, which is really astonishing. Taran tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress is smashing records left, right and centre in Overseas. Collects Rs 72 crores in 9 days in international markets. AWESOME!”
In its U.K circuit, the film made a business of about 13.82 crores in its week 1. In the U.S.A and Canada circuit, the film collected 18.50 crores in the first week and in U.A.E -G.C.C circuit, the film made 18.50 crores.
Further, collections from Australia and New Zealand are also amazing. In Australia, the movie collected 3.25 crore and New Zealand collected 94.69 lacs.
The collection from the key overseas circuits alone has crossed 53 crores in its first week. Figures from other crucial circuits are still being compiled but overall the first week collection for the film in the overseas market has been stupendous!
With these collections, “Chennai Express” has become the highest first week collection ever in the international market. With this, the film has entered the top five highest grosser films at overseas box office. The collection chart is dominated by Shahrukh with seven films.
