Chennai, Aug 9 (): It has been confirmed now that Thalaivaa release is postponed in Tamil Nadu, hometown due to factors like bomb threats from anti-social elements who claim to be “Tamil Nadu Oppressed Students Revolutionary”.
They promised violence if the movie was screened in cinemas on August 9. Also, the tax exemption was declined by officials stating they did not find a cause to waiver tax, leaving the producers for a huge loss.
Thalaivaa stars Ilayathalapathi Vijay, Amala Paul and Sathayraj; the movie is directed by AL. Vijay as is produced by Chandra Prakash Jain. The producer recently revealed his plans of remaking this project in Bollywood where Akshay is likely to play the lead role. The title for the Hindi version is yet to be affirmed. The movie is being dubbed and released in Telugu alongside the Tamil version.
However, the movie will be screened as expected in other parts of the country and worldwide as scheduled reports J. Manohar of Media One – the production house. The last-minute meeting held by the producers with distributors has failed; also requisitions for police protections where the movie is being screened were turned down.
Vijay earlier in a press conference on Wednesday stated that the movie had nothing distrustful or disrespectful to anything concerned to politics. But it is also rumoured that movie takes a dig at some politically sensitive issues evolving around Dharavi.
The advance bookings were stopped by the cinemas on Wednesday after they received phone threats of bombing the theatres. It is reported theatres Devi Cinemas, Kamala Cinemas, Abirami, Kasi, Mayajaal and Sangam were few theatres which received threats. Tamil Nadu T heater Association said, “as the movie was slated for release over 500 screens, we can’t risk to take the issue lightly”.
Initially, the plans were to release the movie on actor’s birthday, but was later postponed due to technical difficulties in wrapping up the project soon. This isn’t the first such occurrence for Vijay’s movie, his prior project Thuppaki directed by AR. Murugadoss went through the same where Muslim groups protested against it claiming they have denigrated Muslim community.
Fans keep their fingers crossed across Tamil Nadu expecting the movie to be released over the weekend – Saturday or Sunday. With Thalaivaa backing off, ’555′ advances instead taking its place. The movie stars Bharath, Santhanam and Mirthika in leads. Directed by Sasi, the movie revolves around the physiological mind games. The movie releases on August 10 and has taken over the screens which were earlier locked by Thalaivaa.
