The Royal Court announced, August 8, Thursday is the first day of Eid Al-Fitr in Saudi Arabia as the Supreme Court yesterday confirmed the sighting of Shawwal crescent by reliable witnesses.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Crown Prince Salman, other members of the royal family, Saudis and all Muslims on the advent of Eid Al-Fitr.
The UAE Moon Sighting Committee has announced August 8, Thursday is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, as Wednesday was the last day of Ramadan. The committee, headed by Dr. Hadef Jua’an Al Daheri, Minister of Justice, said after following number of legitimate measures and having several contacts with neighbouring countries, it was established that Wednesday was the last day of Ramadan, and Thursday is the first day of Shawwal, marking the first day of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE.
Oman has announced the first day of Eid Al Fitr will be Friday, August 9.
Chief Islamic Justice Ahmad Hilayel of Jordan announced that Thursday will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Meteorological Department (Met) director general (DG) of Pakistan there is a good possibility that Shawaal moon would be sighted today (Thursday), the 29th day of the holy month of Ramazan. Met Office said that chances of Eid Al Fitr tomorrow (Friday) are “100 percent.”
India will celebrate Eid on Friday if Shawwal moon is sighted on Thursday; if not, Indians will have to wait till Saturday to celebrate Eid. But, the Indian state of Kerala is celebrating Eid on Thursday following Saudi Arabia.
The countries and regions of South Asia where the biggest Muslim community in the world resides will be celebrating Eid on 9th August instead of 8th August like Saudi Arabia and the USA.
