New Delhi, Aug 7 (): Internet major Microsoft on Tuesday launched its product, Office 365 University that would be available for both full-time and part-time university students in India with an affordable subscription offer. The product would be available only through online purchase, a first for the Indian market.
The company targets the top 55 premier education institutes, 563 universities and 34,000 colleges in India. The Office 365 University has a complete set of Office applications and can be installed on two PCs or Macs.
The suite of offerings includes Office on Demand (which lets users use the office suite even on PCs which do not have the software installed, if it is connected to the internet), additional 20 GB SkyDrive storage and default save to SkyDrive. A single user can install Office on two personal computers.
In India, university students will be able to subscribe to Microsoft Office 365 for as little as Rs 87 per month. The product will be available to all full-time and part-time students of accredited universities and colleges in India. However, they will have to pay Rs 4,199 upfront for a four-year subscription.
Microsoft India GM (Microsoft Office Division) R Pichai said that the special pricing for students would help provide them with opportunities and empower them to develop the necessary skills to be successful in the fast-paced campus environment.
The product makes working efficient and easier and the user can edit and share notes or documents in real time and store them on the cloud, he added.
To buy the product, students have to go to the Office website www.office.com/verify to verify their eligibility in order to activate Office. They need to provide their university qualification and after it is verified, students can purchase Office 365, he said.
Besides, students, college/university faculty and staff in accredited institutions are also eligible to purchase Office 365 University subscription.
