Chennai, Aug 2 (): Vijay starrer Thalaivaa has bagged ‘U’ Certificate from the censor board and is all set to hit silver screens on August 9.
Earlier, a few days back, Thalaivaa was cleared with an UA certificate, but the producers of the film Sri Mishri Productions wanted a ‘U’ certificate for the film.
As per the standards made by the Tamil Nadu government, a film that gets a “A” or “UA” certificate will not get tax benefits. But, entertainment tax waiver of 30% is vital for big budget films.
Realising the fact, the Tamil Nadu distributors of the film Vendhar Movies and producer Chandraparakash Jain preferred a ‘U’ certificate, as it would ensure that the film gets tax-free benefits.
Then, the makers of “Thalaivaa” approached the revising committee for a change in the rating from “UA” to “U”. The committee on Thursday (1 August) cleared the film with a “U” certificate on condition that there should be two minor cuts in the film.
Sources said, the revising committee recommended seven cuts in the film. However, after lot of negotiations, both the parties have agreed for two or three cuts at the maximum.
The action entertainer, “Thalaivaa” is produced by Sri Mishri Productions and directed by AL Vijay. It is one of the most-awaited films of 2013. Thalaivaa has Vijay, Amala Paul in lead roles while Santhanam, Sathyaraj, Rajeev Pillai and Y.Gee. Mahendran play supporting roles.
The music for the movie is scored by GV Prakash. The music and trailer launch happened a day ahead of Vijay’s birthday and they have created curiosity among cine lovers. Vijay’s previous release “Thuppakki” was a massive hit worldwide. This has led to huge expectations for “Thalaivaa” and the producer is confident that “Thalaivaa” will beat “Thuppakki” collections and emerge a big winner. The Eid weekend will help the film get a good opening in India.
Telugu version of Thalaivaa, “Anna Born to Lead” will also release simultaneously with the Tamil version.
