Mumbai, July 20 (): The release date of Shahrukh Khan’s “Chennai Express”, one of the most awaited films this year, has been postponed by one day. Earlier, the movie was set to release on August 8, but now the entire team of “Chennai Express” decided to push the release of the action comedy to August 9.
The makers of the movie have decided to release the movie on August 9 as the day coincides with the auspicious occasion of Eid. They do not want the release date to fall in the days of Ramadan.
Gaurav Verma, director-India Theatrical Distribution Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement that they had always wanted ‘Chennai Express’ to release on Eid. As the Eid festival would be celebrated on 9th, which also happens to be a holiday, it makes sense to release the film on that day, he said.
Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted on the release date of the movie, “Breaking News: #ChennaiExpress will release on 9 August now. Not 8 August”.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Chennai Express is a story about a journey of a man from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and what happens during the journey. Deepika Padukone plays the lead lady role. As it is a Rohit Shetty film, lots of action with romantic twist are expected.
Initially, it was said that Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again as both the movies were planned to release on Eid.
Later, Shahrukh Khan requested Ekta Kapoor to postpone the release of OUATIMA by one week to avoid the box office clash. Ekta’s father Jeetendra too had accepted and Ekta postponed the release of OUATIMA. The decision was taken after a meeting held between Red Chillies, UTV and exhibitors.
Balaji’s Akshay Kumar-Imran Khan-Sonakshi Sinha starrer will now be releasing on the Independence Day weekend of August 15.
