Maoists attack construction firm in Aurangabad, 5 killed

Aurangabad, July 18 (TruthDive): Massive operation was launched in Aurangabad district of Bihar, on Thursday following a Maoist attack a day before, in which five people were killed including three policemen when the revolutionaries attacked the camp of a construction firm, police officials said.

Massive operation was launched in the area by security forces in order to nab the culprits and to take action against them, said Additional Director General of Police Ravinder Kumar.

Kumar claimed that additional security forces from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were also deployed from nearby districts and were engaged in combing operation against the Maoists. A police official in charge of Goh police station alleged that three special auxiliary police (SAP) personnel besides two men of a private security agency were killed in the attack. The private security personnel were hired by the construction company, said officials.

After CRPF personnel engaged in anti-Maoist operations in the area were shifted to Bodh Gaya following the serial bomb blasts at Mahabodhi temple a week back, police personnel were deployed at the base camp. Officials said that Naxals numbering in 250 arrived at the culvert in Goh area in the district and exploded bombs with intention to cause damage to the construction.

The culvert suffered minor damages in the attack, said State Director General of Police Abhayanand. Gunfire went off after police in large numbers reached the spot after getting the information about the Naxal attack in the area.

Security forces said that Naxals even looted 30 rifles from the site. Search operation is going on, said Aurangabad district SP Daljeet Singh adding that casualty or injury on the side of the Naxals could not be ascertained.

Some workers of the construction firm including 12 SAP jawans were reported to be missing, but it is not quite clear whether the Naxals have taken them away, said the police. Following the Naxal attack, CRPF men were rushed to the encounter site from Bodh Gaya.
