Mumbai, July 14 (): Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag managed to show an impressive start, collecting 8.5 crore business at the box office on its opening day.
Being a moving and inspirational tale of life of Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, the movie was released on July 12 and a paid preview show was arranged on Thursday. Milkha Singh represented India in the 1960 summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 summer Olympics in Tokyo after losing his family during the partition.
The biopic features Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles and has opened to pretty good reviews from critics and celebrities who have already seen the film in a special screening. On seeing the preview show, trade analyst Taran Adarsh reviewed the film in his tweet saying, “#BhaagMilkhaBhaag review: Sure to win accolades, admiration, respect and esteem. Give it a standing ovation!”
“#BhaagMilkhaBhaag strong previews on Thu, decent start on Fri, terrific word of mouth should ensure escalation!” Film collected 1.05 cr nett in preview shows on Thursday and the film is estimated to have collected 8 cr nett on Friday, making the opening day total to be more than 8.5 crore.
“Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” started slowly at box office but it picked up fairly well in evening and night shows to get a good opening score. Film has no competition as no other Bollywood film was released on that day.
On saying about the response of the film Taran tweeted, “#BhaagMilkhaBhaag had an amazing pick up in evening/night shows on Fri. Early trends suggest 8 cr start… Thu previews: 1.05 cr.”
“#BhaagMilkhaBhaag Fri biz may cross 8.5 cr. Still counting… Superb!”
“#BhaagMilkhaBhaag biz jumped manifold in almost all circuits on Fri evening. Trending suggest, Sat should be bigger than Fri.”
Film has collected 8.5 crore including preview shows and a good jump in next two days will take it closer to 27 cr nett to show a good opening weekend total.
