Tri-Series: India beat Sri Lanka by 81 runs, top points table

Port of Spain, July 10 (): In the crucial match against Sri Lanka, Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar took career-best figures of 4 wickets for 8 runs to thrash Sri Lanka by 81-run by Duckworth Lewis method in the rain- shortened match.

India made 119 for three off 29 overs after batting first. After nearly four hours of rain, the target is revised by 178 to win off 26 overs. At the beginning of Sri Lanka batting, India had to restrict Lanka to 167 to win to get ahead of West Indies in NRR to reach the finals. Chasing a daunting task of 178 in 26 overs, Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar collapsed four Sri Lankan top order batsmen to restrict 31 for four in 9th over. He removed Upul Tharanga (6) and Kumar Sangakkara (0) off successive deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma took two wickets each, while Ashwin and Umesh Yadav took one wicket each. The chase of Sri Lankan ended on 96 in 24.4 overs.

India won the match by 81 runs with bonus point to top the table. India will clash with Sri Lanka for the title on Thursday.
