Mumbai, July 8 (): The opening weekend collections of Lootera is estimated to be in the range of Rs 19 crores and the action flick Policegiri collected a mere Rs 8.25 crore nett over the weekend.
Produced by Balaji and Phantom, the Ranveer Singh-Sonakshi Sinha starrer Lootera received exemplary pre-release reviews. The movie showed an average response on the opening day, collecting Rs 5.15 crores on Friday.
Receiving positive reviews and the terrific word-of-mouth effect were visible in the 25-30 percent jump that the film took on Saturday. Sunday’s business was also better, as much as 30 percent nationwide.
The response was good in West Bengal but poor in the mass belt areas of Bihar, Rajasthan and UP. On the opening day, Delhi multiplexes saw a decent rise in footfalls as the day progressed.
Lootera’s weekend collection is Rs 16 crores; Friday – Rs 4.25 crore, Saturday – Rs 5.50 crore and Sunday Rs 6.25 crore.
The Sanjay Dutt starrer Policegiri fell flat on the first day itself. It was estimated that the film would open with a 50% note at the single screen theatres in mass centres. But, the film witnessed a setback, taking off to an ordinary start.
The actuals of the opening day was 2.75 crores. The collections of the film dropped to 2.50 crores on Saturday. Film collected 3 cr nett on Sunday thus taking 1st weekend total to 8.25 cr nett.
Usually a film’s collections pick up during the weekend. But beginning with a slow Saturday there is limited hope for this Sanjay Dutt starrer film to improve in the coming days.
Policegiri is purely meant for the mass audiences at single screen cinemas across the B&C class centres. Unfortunately, it has not fetched the start that it would have needed to reach a good finish line. The film has failed to prove itself in both the multiplex and single screen.
Experts say as the makers did not spend much on the film or its publicity, it will not be a big loss despite the low collections.
