Mumbai, July 1 (): Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer “Ghanchakkar” has raked in around 22 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. Even though the movie did not receive an earth-shattering response like their last movie The Dirty Picture, it has done a decent collection at the Indian Box Office on its opening day as well as the opening weekend.
Trade analyat Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Ghanchakkar collected approx Rs 22.30 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 7.20 cr, Sat 7.30 cr, Sun 7.80 cr.”
Ghanchakkar was released on June 28 and the opening day collection was moderate collecting just 7.2 crore. Seeing the opening day collections, Taran tweeted, “INDIA: #Ghanchakkar Fri Rs 7.2 cr.”
Although the movie has done a decent collection at the Indian Box Office on its opening day, it has failed to smash the first day business record of The Dirty Picture.
The response for the movie at single screens in the morning and afternoon shows was not as expected on Friday. Its occupancy in multiplexes was slightly better, but overall, its business was below the mark.
The film collected almost similar number on Saturday too; the collection on Saturday was 7.30 cr nett. On Sunday, the movie has collected 7.80 cr nett taking the weekend figure to 22.30 cr nett which is almost similar to what the experts predicted before release. The collections were not up to the mark as the movie received mixed word of mouth and not so great reviews.
Also, the collections were affected by the Punjabi film “Jatt &Juliet- 2″ in the north and the release of “Balupu”, starring Telugu actor Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan in southern region.
Ghanchakkar is praised for the splendid performances by the lead actors; yet the romantic comedy thriller directed by Rajkumar Gupta failed to attract the audience as the script and screenplay are not impressive.
The film’s collections might drop further when Ranveer, Sonakshi Sinha’s much-awaited period romance drama “Lootera” releases this Friday (5 July).
