The romantic movie that marks the entry of Tamil actor Dhanush in Bollywood, has beaten old releases like Fukrey and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and has topped the domestic business.
Dhanush is a big star in South and his ‘Kolaveri Di’ number made him famous across the country. Raanjhanaa is his first Hindi release and it has received glowing reviews from film critics and terrific word of mouth from audiences. Critics say actors Dhanush, Sonam, Aanand Rai have made a good impression on the hearts and minds of the spectators.
The movie was released on June 21 and it opened with an average response with its occupancy ranging between 30% and 35% in the morning and matinees shows on its first day. After seeing the reviews, the movie picked up well in the afternoon and evening shows. Further, the film saw a remarkable growth on Saturday and Sunday. The first weekend collection was 20.08 crores nett at the Indian box office, which is considered as real good collection.
Raanjhanaa is an expensive film. The film is made at a budget of Rs 30 cr range. Besides the Hindi version, a good revenue is expected from its Tamil version too, which was released 28 June.
Another most-awaited movie of this year is Ghanchakkar. The movie starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan in lead roles, has hit the screens on June 28. It should be seen whether Raanjhanaa would be affected by Ghanchakkar at the business centres.
