Mumbai, June 2 (): Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), the romantic entertainer starring Ranbir and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles has earned a whopping 19.45 crore on the opening day at domestic box office. Trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#YehJawaaniHaiDeewani Fri Rs 19.45 cr. STUPENDOUS!!!
“Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” has become the biggest opener released this year, surpassing Saif Ali Khan’s “Race 2″ which collected 15.12 crore on its opening day. But, “YJHD” failed to exceed the opening day collection of Salman’s “Dabangg 2″. “Dabangg 2″ collected 21.10 crore in India, while “YJHD” raked in 19.45 crore.
Not only in India, the film had a fabulous start at overseas box office also and is expected to beat “Barfi” and “Rockstar” – both featuring Ranbir in the lead role.
Taran Adarsh wrote, “#YehJawaaniHaiDeewani is on a record-shattering spree in India and Overseas”.
He further tweeted, “UK: YJHD- Fri £ 118,159, Barfi £ 229,783 [weekend], Rockstar £ 184,592. AUSTRALIA: YJHD-Fri A$ 69,501, Barfi A$ 138,257 [weekend], Rockstar A$ 99,676 [weekend]. NEW ZEALAND: YJHD-Fri NZ$ 20,028, Barfi NZ$ 22,815 [weekend], Rockstar NZ$ 21,547 [weekend]. UAE: Thu AED 800,000. Barfi Thu was AED 450,000″.
Giving a magical start, the film witnessed 90-100 percent occupancy at the multiplexes across the country with Delhi city and many screens of NCR seeing extraordinary collections. But, YJHD was expected to fade at single screens, but the opening ranged from 50-75 percent in single screens also. Though the collections wavered during the mid-afternoon, the film picked up in the evening and night shows.
If the collections sustain well today, then, experts say, the movie will surely reach the 50 crore mark in its first weekend.
And with no competition this weekend, the magic is expected to strike gold by entering into the elite club of Rs. 100 cr.
