Mumbai, May 29 (): Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer “Aashiqui 2″ has crossed 100 crore mark in its box office collection. The movie was released on 26 April and since its release, the low-budget film made on a budget of Rs 9 crore has surprised trade analysts with amazing collections.
Directed by Mohit Suri, the musical saga Aashiqui 2 has become the latest to join the 100 crore club and the movie is the second Hindi film that has surpassed the 100 crore mark this year at the box office, after this year’s blockbuster “Race 2″.
The musical saga continued to draw audiences even in its third week, with a drop of only 20-25 per cent. Business Today says Aashiqui 2 has become the third-highest grossing film of the year after Saif Ali Khan’s Race 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Special 26.
Race 2, an action-thriller movie starring Saif Ali Khan, had made over Rs 100 crore at the overseas box office within seven days of its release. In the domestic market, Race 2 crossed the 100 crore mark in two weeks of its release. “Race 2″ had become one of the biggest releases in India as well as overseas.
On the contrary, Aashiqui 2 had a very limited release. The film had not hit the screens in the main overseas markets such as US, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. The film was released only in UAE and Pakistan.
The film’s producers, star cast and other members of the unit are extremely glad at the brisk business. To celebrate the success of the film, the makers threw a grand bash.
Aditya also celebrated ‘Aashiqui 2′ success with his family. His sister-in-law and Bollywood actress Vidya Balan hosted a private party to celebrate Aditya’s first solo hit.
Bhushan Kumar, the co-producer of the film, said ‘Aashiqui 2′ has become a new landmark film with relatively new faces in the 100th year of Indian cinema.
