Mumbai, Mar 20 (): Akshay Kumar is the highest tax payer this year after surpassing the top three Khans —Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan by paying an advance tax of Rs 18 crore.
Reports in a leading daily stated that the 45-year-old actor has given four back to back hits- ‘Housefull 2’, ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘OMG’ – all the films were released in 2012 and ‘Special 26’ was released this yea. He he has beaten all the three Khans and has become the highest advance income tax payer for the sixth consecutive year.
While Salman Khan came second in the list by paying Rs. 11 crore, Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan landed third by paying Rs. 10.5 crore. Meanwhile, Bollywood Mr. Perfectionist – Aamir Khan – is said to have paid Rs. 8 crore.
Katrina Kaif paid the highest tax of Rs. 4.5 crore while Kareena Kapoor Khan is said to have paid Rs. 4 crore. Barfi! girl Priyanka Chopra has paid a meagre Rs. 2 crore and remains far behind.
A trade insider confirmed the news saying that no one would talk about these things openly, but the advance income tax payer list had thrown up a few surprises this year. For the past couple of years, the films of Salman Khan have been blockbusters at the box office, but Akshay remains way ahead of the pack in terms of his tax payment.
The trade insider also added that of late, the amount of tax you pay had become a mark of sorts for the success of the stars.
Akshay said that it was his duty to give back to the society what he had received. He added he was not only paying his taxes loyally but he was extending Akshay Kumar as a brand to bring awareness about the necessity of paying taxes to the Indian citizen.
