Chennai, Feb 28 (TruthDive): Special 26, also known as Special Chabbis is said to be remade in Tamil and Telugu by Lingusamy’s ‘Thirupathi Brothers’.
Special 26 is a Bollywood movie, which features Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles with Anupam Kher and Manoj Bajpai in supporting roles. The movie was released on February 20 and is today running on its 20th day. The Akshay Kumar starrer received positive reviews from critics as well as audiences and is still running strong at the box office. Trade analysts have declared the movie as a hit.
On seeing the movie, Lingusamy, Tamil director, was very impressed with the film. He wishes to buy the remake rights for his production company Thirrupathy Brothers and remake it with a first list hero in Tamil and Telugu.
Linguswamy has approached production team of Special Chabbis to acquire the remake rights. Reports say that Lingusamy’s ‘Thirupathi Brothers’ and Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Friday Filmworks’ will jointly produce the film.
Subash Chandra Bose of Thirrupathy Brothers has confirmed the news saying that they would be jointly producing the Tamil and Telugu version of Special 26. At present, the team are working out the cast and technical crew and the official announcement about the movie would be released shortly, he said.
The story of Special 26 is based on the real-life bold theft dated 19-Mar-1987. In the daring incident, an unknown man pretending as CBI officer Mon Singh had employed 26 men along with him and performed a daylight raid on the Opera House branch of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri in Mumbai, and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs.
‘Special 26’ was directed by Neeraj Pandey and was produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Neeraj Pandey’s previous movie “A Wednesday” was also remade in Tamil as Unnai Pol Oruvan. Kamal Hassan played the lead role in this film and Mohan Lal in a prominent role
