ISRO’s PSLV C-20 to space lift seven satellites on Feb 25

Chennai, Feb 17 (TruthDive): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch multiple satellites including an Indo-French collaborative satellite SARAL from rocket launch centre  in Sriharikota on February 25. Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C-20 (PSLV C-20) will put into orbit seven foreign satellites and earn the required revenue.

Sources from ISRO said that the PSLV-C20 is currently fixed for launch on February 25 evening, and the rocket will blast from Sriharikota rocket launch centre with seven satellites of weight of around 700 kg.

PSLV C-20 will carry two French payloads as a part of the 400-kg SARAL (Satellite for Argos-3 and Altika) from French space agency CNES and India has provided the satellite frame and build it, and also take care of the launch services.  Argos is based on data collection platform while Altika is based on studying of seasonal forecasting, earth system and climate research, operational oceanography, marine meteorology and sea state forecasting. The data provided by SARAL will be shared by India and France.

The ISRO had earlier planned to launch SARAL on December 12, 2013 but postponed it to carry out other tests to “address technical issues to ensure reliability”.

The other five satellites which would be launched would be of commercial agreement and this will generate huge income to the ISRO.

The other satellites are two Canadian satellites – NEOSSat (Near Earth Object Space Surveillance Satellite), Sapphire satellite built by MacDonald, BRITE and UniBRITE of Austria, STRAND of Britain and AAUSAT of Denmark.

NEOSSat of Canada will detect and track asteroids and satellites circling the globe every 100 minutes and Sapphire will look for space debris circling between 6,000 km and 40,000 km above the earth.

ISRO has already completed 100 missions since Aryabhatta launch in 1975 and in 2008 India successfully launched ten satellites into orbit in a single mission in PSLV-C9.
