Chennai, Feb 11 (TruthDive): Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has plans of releasing Bala’s Tamil period-drama Paradesi in North India as he was completely blown after watching the movie at a private screening.
Tamil period-drama “Paradesi”, directed by Bala, is set in pre-independent India and the story is based on Paul Harris Daniel’s English novel “Red Tea”. It is also said the story is inspired from Malayalam novel ‘Eriyum Thanal’. The story revolves around the trials and problems faced by a couple, who are working in a tea estate.
Like the previous films of Bala, ‘Sethu’, ‘Nanda’ and ‘Pithamagan’ which were realistic, dark and with meaningful offerings, ‘Paradesi’ also promises to take a look at what suffering the tea estate labourers underwent at the time of British occupation.
Earlier this month, acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap got a chance of watching the film and lauded the filmmaker. Anurag tweeted, “Just saw Bala’s Paradesi. Absolutely blown by it. His best yet”.
Anurag Kashyap said in a statement that he wanted to release ‘Paradesi’ with English and Hindi subtitles in central and north India through his company Phantom Films Pvt Ltd.
Kashyap has directed films like ‘Dev D’, ‘Gulaal’, ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur I&II’. Meanwhile, he is now busy wrapping up work for his two upcoming films ‘Ugly’ and ‘Bombay Talkies’. And, if Anurag Kashyap releases Paradesi in the North, it would be for the first time that he would be releasing a Tamil film in Central & North India.
Paradesi was initially scheduled to release in December 2012, but was later called off. It is now releasing on February 15.
The movie stars Adharvaa Murali, Vedhika Kumar, Dhansika and Uma Riyaz Khan. G.V Prakash Kumar has composed the music for the film, which has cinematography by Chezhiyan.
‘Paradesi’ was wrapped in just 90 days and the audio was launched at a grand function in Chennai recently.
