Wood wobbles way to 75th PGA Tour title

London, Jan 29(ANI): Ace golfer Tiger Woods claimed his 75th PGA Tour title despite a few panicky moments towards the end of his round in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

Woods came into the fifth day of play with a six-shot lead over nearest challengers Brandt Snedeker and Nick Watney and with just 11 holes to play, and it would have taken an improbable run of events to rob the American ace, the Daily Mail reports.

However, the world number two was far from his assured best and even though he dropped four stokes in three holes from the 14th, it did not threaten to upset his charge to victory and he finished on 14 under par overall, four strokes clear of last year’s winner Snedeker, the paper further reported.

Woods admitted that it got a little ugly towards the end, adding that he just lost his concentration a little bit.

Woods began his round on Monday and three birdies in his first seven holes strengthened his challenge before darkness fell.

The 37-year-old parred his first five holes today with the minimum of fuss before birdieing the 13th after two-putting from 52 feet, but he dropped back immediately afterwards when he found a greenside bunker with his lay-up and then double bogeyed the par-four 15th after being forced to take a penalty drop, the paper reported.

Woods dropped another shot on the 17th and missed a 15ft birdie putt on the last but it mattered little, his level-par 72 enough for victory, the paper concluded. (ANI)
