Alex Pandian – Review

Chennai, Jan 12 (TruthDive): Karthi’s Alex Pandian has released yesterday on the big screens, with good expectations worldwide. The name of the film ‘Alex Pandian’ itself has evoked special interest among the masses, as it is the name of a popular character played by Superstar Rajinikanth in one of his super hit movies ‘Moondru Mugam’.

2.75 / 5

Starring: Karthi, Anushka, Santhanam
Director: Suraj
Producer: K. E. Gnanavelraja
Music: Devi Sri Prasad

The movie starts stunningly with a much-talked train chase scene. A group of rogues chase Anushka Shetty during which Karthi appears and smashes everything down. In an instance during the fight, they both dive into the water bed that leads them to a village located nearby.

Then, we are introduced to comedian Santhanam’s family, which consists of his mother and three younger sisters – Nikitha, Akanshka and Sanusha. Alex Pandian settles down at his house in spite of stern opposition from Santhanam while Anushka is treated in an Ayurvedic centre.

The three sisters become very much acquainted with Karthi. Parallely, Milind Soman vigorously searches for Karthi and Anushka; keeping the suspense element intense.

In the second half, the true identity of Karthi and Anushka Shetty are revealed. Anushka is the daughter of a Chief Minister. Alex has kidnapped Anushka, under the orders passed by Alvin Martin (Milind Soman) and Dr GKM (Sumanth). The baddies wants to sign a deal with the state government. As the Chief Minister refuses to sign, they give a contract to Karthi to abduct Anushka. What happens next should be seen on-screen.

Karthi has given his best, with his energetic performance. He has brilliantly handled the action and dance sequences. He also impresses us with his comedy lines along with Santhanam.

Anushka Shetty is colourful. She has nothing much to do other than some dance sequences with Karthi.

Santhanam’s comedy is hilarious in few scenes but in others it looks irritating.

Music by Devi Sri Prasad is appreciable and ‘Onnam Class’, ‘Thakka Thayya’ and ‘Bad Boy’ are our picks.

Sarvanan’s photography stand out at the technical departments. Especially, the train action sequence are fantastic. The first 10 minutes action sequence have been brilliantly shot, despite the fact that the audience can easily make out that the scenes have been choreographed on a still train at parts.

Editing done by Praveen-K.L. Srikanth is of average quality.

Director Suraj receives full marks for penning the dialogues.

“Alex Pandian” is a mix of all elements comedy, action, romance and sentiment. Overall, the movie is a typical commercial entertainer.
