Kamal Nath confirms DMRC’s role in Kochi metro project

Kochi, Jan. 8 (ANI): Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday confirmed the involvement of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in the new metro project at Kochi.

Nath said that the stage is set for the DMRC to take up the project work of Kochi metro, as discussed by the Centre and Kerala Government.

“The project, which is being approved by the Government of India at a total of about Rs. 5,000 crores, was under discussion today between the Government of India and the Government of Kerala. In the last meeting, it was agreed that both governments would look at how DMRC could participate in the timely building of the Kochi metro,” he told the media here.

Nath further informed about the responsibilities entrusted to the Delhi metro in this project.

“DMRC will be responsible for the technical consultancy, including detailed drawings. Similarly, they will get the tender documents and DMRC will award all the contracts or tenders on behalf of Kochi metro,” said Nath.

” The supervision of the project at site shall also be done by Delhi metro. Sreedharan will continue to function as the principal advisor to DMRC stationed at Kochi and he will be delegated appropriate responsibilities to ensure timely completion of this project,” he added.

Principal Advisor of DMRC, E. Sreedharan, said they would attempt to complete the project within three years.

“Now, there is perfect understanding between Kerala and the Central Government. So, there are no further hurdles. Ample powers are required to finish the project on time. See, the time given by the Government of India is four years; our attempt is to finish in three years time. I think we will be able to do it,” he said.

As per reports, the DMRC would execute the project and invite tenders.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas, Kerala Minister for Electricity and Transport Aryadan Mohammad, Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna, Kerala Chief Secretary Jose Cyriac, Urban Development Joint Secretary and Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s Board member S.K.
