Kolkata, Jan 2 (TruthDive): In a shocking incident, the Trinamool Congress workers were observed climbing on a stage and throwing money on women dancers at a function organized near Kolkata on Tuesday night to celebrate the party’s 15th anniversary in which women performed dance.
Condemning the act of the party workers, party MP Derek O’Brien said that action will be taken within the next forty-eight hours against those involved. The minister also said that a number of events were held on the 15th anniversary of the party, out of which this one was regarded to be the most vulgar.
The party did not expect such vulgarity from the workers, said the minister who also added that after getting to the bottom of the incident severe action will be taken that is entirely zero tolerance on such matters. The government has also sent a team to investigate the event and check who organized the programme, said the minister.
At a time when the nation is weeping on the brutality of a 23-year-old medical student who was gang-raped on a moving bus in Delhi and succumbed to the injuries, this celebration organized by district-level leaders in Bhangore near Kolkata has created uproar among the civil society.
Well-known theatre director and actor Usha Ganguly, claimed the dance celebration to be shocking which is not the traditional practice of Bengal. It is unfair and distressing to watch political parties behaving in this manner when the Delhi girl’s death is still alive in the heart of the people, added the actor.
It was more shocking to see the programme held right in front of a local police station without permission, which was aired last night on local television channels following which the police rushed to the site and stopped the show around 11:30 pm after receiving a phone call from the party high command, said sources claiming the celebrations have been organised by a member of Trinamool zila parishad Meer Taheer Ali.
