Tuticorin, Dec 31 (TruthDive): The protesters of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu that witnessed a 500-day-long agitation against setting up of a nuclear plant, have decided to take a peaceful struggle in the event of the New Year’s Eve in which people from several places including activists like Dr Binayak Sen, Prashant Bhushan and Admiral (Rtd) L Ramdas will be joining the strike along with the local people of the coastal villages like Idinthakarai near Tirunelveli.
People from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgargh and West Bengal have already reached the village to acknowledge the courageous struggle of the people, said (PMANE) Convener S P Udayakumar.
Thanking all those who have joined the struggle from different places, Mr Udayakumar said that it was a happy moment for the people who have been protesting these days and expressed his gratitude on behalf of the local people to the well wishers who have come a long way from all corners of the country.
The PMANE leader also claimed that the protest of the people which was launched since August last year seeking a demand to stop the project over safety concerns will exist till their “last breath”.
He also said that the activists would address the media from the Lourde Matha Church premises at 3 pm today. The 1000 MW first unit of the project will most probably be commissioned soon.
A large number of people have assembled on the beaches of the villages of Tirunelveli. Mr Udayakumar said that the people of Idinthakarai have sustained extreme cruelty unleashed by the undemocratic and insensitive Indian state.
Reminding the political leaders such as Dr. Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi the PMANE leader said that their strike will go on and will not stop until the government drops the idea. The protest will be carried even by the last child of this land, said the PMANE leader.
