Chennai, Dec 30 (TruthDive): Pressurizing the central government, Tamil Nadu chief Minister J Jayalalithaa demanded immediate gazetting of Cauvery Tribunal’s final order by the Centre, taking into consideration the withering crops in Tamil Nadu.
Jayalalithaa who took up the issue with the Prime Minister last year, said that the centre paid less heed to her demand even after she wrote a letter to the prime minister urging the order to be notified immediately.
Suspecting over the recent meeting of the DMK MPs with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Jayalalithaa raised questions whether the issue of gazette notification of the final award of the Cauvery tribunal was given significance or not.
Blaming the previous government, the AIADMK supremo hinted by saying that the DMK government had showed signs of irresponsibility by not taking appropriate steps to get the final order notified even after the AIADMK demanded for it. Jayalalithaa also said that it was after her party moved the Supreme Court on the issue, the centre gave an undertaking that the award will be notified by December end.
Appreciating the Chief Minister for her efforts in taking a crucial decision on the Cauvery issue to secure rights of Tamil Nadu, Coordinator of Ayyan Vaikal Pasanathar Sangam N. Veerasekaran said Jayalalithaa sought valuable implementation of the crop insurance scheme.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also conducted a review meeting with her cabinet colleagues and senior officials on Sunday to discuss the Cauvery issue, which came a day after she insisted the Centre to notify the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes tribunal.
As soon as the gazette notification is issued, the Cauvery River Authority which is headed by the Prime Minister and the CMC is believed to have come to a halt. Both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are mired in a controversy following the dispute over sharing of Cauvery water in which a case has been filed and is in pending in the Supreme Court.
