Vijay Mallya gifts 3kg gold to Tirumala

Hyderabad, Dec 18 (TruthDive): Vijay Mallya kept his word with Lord Balaji on his 57th birthday.

Vijay Mallya went to Tirumala today to fulfil a vow to Lord Balaji, Lord of the Seven Hills.He had said that he would pay to gold-plate the doorstep to the sanctum sanctorum known in Telugu as the ‘bangaru vakili’.

Known as World’s richest pilgrimage centre, Mallya carried 3 kg of gold and handed it over to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) officials. Deputy executive officer Chinangari Ramana issued a receipt for the donation.

Till date, Vijay Mallya the promoter of the United Breweries group has given to the temple up to 8 kg for gold-plating different parts of the temple.

Mallya who received birthday greetings on his twitter page thanked everybody and said that he was in Tirupati. “ May Balaji bless us all,” he tweeted.

Last month Mallya, one of India’s richest men, got $2.1 billion last month after giving up his major share in his United Spirits Ltd to Diageo Plc.

India’s Richard Branson, Vijay Mallya, who owns jet and villas across the globe and co -sponsors a F1 team  has been in the news after Kingfisher, the airline promoted by him, was grounded by DGCA.A labour unrest in October led to the airline announcing a lockout.

Kingfisher Airlines was launched with much fanfare in 2005; in terms of domestic passenger share,it was rated India’s second-largest airline. Despite this, the airline was in the red and finally it struggled to pay its staff, and finally not flown since early October.

Vijay Mallya has offered to pay Rs 425 cr to start a limited operation and the bankers to refinance the airline. He was hopeful of Etihad Airways buying 46% stake and putting in Rs 3000 cr as investment. This announcement was to be made today at his birthday bash in Goa. Later developments show that Jet Airways might finally clinch the deal with Etihad.
