Du Plessis says Proteas will have to play like champions to beat ‘tough’ Kiwis

Wellington, Dec 11(ANI): South Africa all rounder Faf du Plessis has said they shouldn’t under estimate touring New Zealand side despite the huge gulf in their rankings, and added the world number one Proteas need to be like Australia in their glory days.

The two teams will meet in three Twenty20 games, two tests and three one-day internationals between December 21 and January 25 and South Africa’s governing body are concerned that tickets won’t sell.

However, Du Plessis, a star with the bat in Australia is doing his best to talk up the tourists.

“We only won the test series in New Zealand 1-0 (in March) – we didn’t walk all over them. That shows we will still have to play good cricket,”Stuff.co.nz quoted Du Plessis, as saying.

“There are one or two teams who are a little bit easier to play against, but most of them have some quality players,” he added.

“If you take your foot off the gas, you are not justifying your No 1 ranking. If you look at how the Aussies played when they were No 1, they were unbelievable, they just kept drilling teams,” he said.

Du Plessis added: “If we want to be like them and stay on top, we have to make sure that we play to our potential – whoever we play against.” (ANI)
