Mumbai, Dec 1 (TruthDive): Aamir Khan starrer ‘Talaash’ opened very well on November 30, a non-holiday Friday and in the domestic box office, the suspense drama raked in 14.52 crore on its first day.
When comparing the collection of Talaash on the opening day with two big releases of Bollywood Salman Khan’s “Ek Tha Tiger” and Shahrukh Khan’s “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”, it is evident that Talaash failed to smash first day collections of those two movies.
‘Ek Tha Tiger’, which was released on Independence day on 15 August, 2012, earned above 32 crores on its first day which is a record in Bollywood, to earn biggest money on opening day. Ek Tha Tiger enjoyed a long weekend with the Independence Day holiday and Eid weekend, thus paving a path for the movie to cross the 200 crore mark.
‘Talaash’ was also unable to break the opening day record of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ was released on November 23, Diwali day and collected Rs 15.23 on the opening day of its release. ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ has also entered the 100 crore club.
Both Ek Tha Tiger and Jab Tak Hai Jaan have released on holidays and they grossed a huge amount in the kitty and it is not a huge surprise. But, collecting 14.52 crore on a non-holiday Friday is a great achievement for the Reema Kagti’s directorial venture.
Talaash received mixed reviews and the word-of-mouth is also mixed, yet the movie is likely to show good business over the weekend. Trade analysts expect Saturday’s collection to be around 15-16 cr, as the morning shows at key centres today have slightly better occupancy than yesterday. Sunday will also be huge. The movie is expected to cross 20 crore mark in its first weekend.
After ’3 Idiots’ and ‘Ghajini’, it would be interesting to see if Aamir’s suspense thriller will enter the Rs 100 crore club.
