London, Nov 22 (ANI): Indian-born British sculptor Anish Kapoor has produced a Gangnam Style video in support of Chinese dissident and artist Ai Weiwei.
Kapoor’s Gangnam Style video is supported by human rights organisations including Amnesty, Liberty and the Index on Censorship and features other well-known artists such as Mark Wallinger and Bob and Roberta Smith.
“Our film aims to make a serious point about freedom of speech and freedom of expression,” the Telegraph quoted Kapoor, as saying.
“It is our hope that this gesture of support for Ai Weiwei and all prisoners of conscience will be wide-ranging and will help to emphasise how important these freedoms are to us all,” Kapoor added.
According to the paper, the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim art gallery in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and other institutions sent in their contributions to the video, which will be screened at museums and organisations worldwide.
Weiwei has already made his own Gangnam parody as a comment on the lack of freedom in China.
According to the paper, Ai’s version featured him waving handcuffs in criticism of the Chinese government for arresting and holding him without charge for almost three months last year. (ANI)
