Melbourne, Nov. 15 (ANI): Australian tennis legend Rod Laver’s wife Mary died at the couple’s home in Carlsbad, northern San Diego County, California on Monday morning at the age of 84.
The Lavers were married for 46 years and had one son, Rick, who was born three weeks after the now 74-year-old sportsperson won the grand slam in 1969, claiming all four singles majors in the same year.
“We had a wonderful life together. We did a lot of travelling, a lot of tennis tournaments, tennis events,” News.com.au quoted him as saying.
The Laver family is planning a private memorial service.
Laver revealed the couple met at the Jack Kramer Club in the Los Angeles area and were married on June 20, 1966, in San Rafael, California. (ANI)
